Programme

Limerick Sings International Choral Festival invites choirs of all traditions and nationalities to come together for a weekend of non-competitive singing in spectacular venues featuring King John’s Castle, St Mary’s Cathedral and University Concert Hall, Limerick. The festival will take place from 10th June – 13th June 2016. The programme for the festival is as follows, additional opportunities to sing in venues such as the Hunt Museum, the Milk Market etc can be arranged on request:

Thursday, 9th June
Choirs choosing the option of a 4 night package arrive today and enjoy a Ceili Mór evening of Irish entertainment and a chance to learn Irish ceili dancing

 

Friday, 10th June 
Choirs continue to arrive and settle in to their accommodation. There will be an opportunity for short tours in the morning wth an option to visit King John’a Castle in the afernoon prior to the opening of the festival. Group tour rates can be arranged on request.
4.30pm The opening of Limerick Sings Festival and a welcome reception will take place in King John’s Castle in Limerick City, with an opportunity for choirs to sing one piece impromptu if they wish
6-7 pm                 Rehearsal for Concert in St Mary’s Cathedral
8.00pm       Celebratory Concert of selected choirs in St Mary’s Cathedral
10.30pm Post concert Festival Club in Dolan’s Bar Limerick

 

Saturday, 11th June 
7.30am Option of dawn chorus and walk on the Living Bridge at University of Limerick campus
8.30am Breakfast in your accommodation
9.30-1pm Experience the lively atmosphere of Limerick’s Saturday market
11.00am Option of walking tour of Limerick option with visits to the Hunt Museum/ tour of King John’s Castle arranged at group rates on request. Half day or full day tours to local areas of interest on request.
6-7.30pm Pre concert dinners arranged in the Pavilion Club /Stables Club on request (At extra cost of €20-30 approx.)
8.00pm Choirs attend Gala Concert in University Concert Hall. The programme led by Perform International will include Haydn’s Lord Nelson Mass with orchestra and over 150 US choristers under the baton of Choral Director Dr Jeffrey Benson from San Jose University
10.30pm Festival Club on campus in the Pavilion Club with refreshments and informal sing song with local choristers.

 

Sunday, 12th June 
10.00am Option of early morning walk around the spectacular campus of the University of Limerick, with tour of the Art Collections and complimentary coffee in Plassey House.
12.00pm Rehearsal for afternoon Choral Prom Concert. Lunch options arranged on campus at extra charge €10-15 on request
3.30pm Choral  Summer Prom Concert in Holy Trinity Abbey Church in Adare, Co Limerick. Transport to Adare provided.
6.00pm Return to campus for Summer Barbecue and sing song to close Limerick Sings Festival and bid farewell to all choirs.

 

Monday, June 29th
  • Optional tours as requested such as Kilkenny or Cork City, the Wild Atlantic Way including Cliff of Moher, Dingle Peninsula, Lakes of Killarney, Galway and Connemara.
  • Choirs depart. We can also facilitate choirs who wish to extend their stay with us after the festival.
